Sixty of 350 Nepalis stranded in Kedarnath airlifted: MoFA

Kathmandu, June 20 – Sixty of the 350-odd Nepali pilgrims who were among the thousands stranded at the Hindu shrine of Kedarnath in Uttarakhand due to floods have been air lifted to Deheradun, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.
The Nepali Embassy in New Delhi is in constant touch with Indian officials and are monitoring the situation closely, said Ministry Spokesperson Arjun Bahadur Thapa.
According to local reports, hundrends of people have been killed and over thousands of pilgrims on their way to Hindu shrines in the area stranded as roads have been cut off by landslides caused by incessant rainfall since Sunday. The Kedarnath Valley is among the worst affected with road links totally destroyed.
Thapa said that it would take some time before all of the stranded are airlifted by Indian officials. "The ministry is also coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu."
