Country still reels under flood devastation

Butwal, June 18 –  Flood triggered by continuous rainfall since Sunday has caused huge damages in different places of Bhairahawa, Butwal and Palpa.

A road stretch near Siddhababa temple on the Butwal-Palpa road section along the Siddhartha Highway got crumbled due to incessant rainfall, said the Regional Traffic Police Office, Butwal.

Likewise, the heavy rain and flood have adversely affected normal life in the human settlements nearby the banks of Tinahu and Danab Rivers.

One person went missing in the Tinahu River yesterday while human settlements around the River side have been heavily inundated, it is learnt.

Schools closed, highways blocked

Meanwhile, the private schools here also announced closure for four days from today realising difficulty to operate regular school activities, said Krishna Khanal, Chairperson of Private and Boarding Schools' Organization of Nepal (PABSON), Rupandehi Chapter.

With this, at least 200 private schools will remain closed in the district.

The East-West Mahendra Highway and Siddhartha Highway are not in smooth operation because of downpour followed by flood.

Likewise, the Maldhunga-Beni road section has been disrupted due to landslides and floods since early this morning.

The landslides triggered by heavy rainfall and flood in the Damuwa River in Pang VDC obstructed the road section.

The vehicles to and from Myagdi have been stranded at Khaniyaghat and Maldhunga, said the District Police Office, Parbat.

With this, passengers have suffered a lot since they do not find hotels and shops nearby to buy food items and drinking water.

It seems that there is no immediate chance to clear the debris on the road and bring it to smooth operation due to incessant rain.

Incessant rainfall continue to wreck havoc in Kalikot

Meanwhile, in Kalikot district, continuous rainfall since Sunday has caused damage and affected normal life.

Likewise Jitegada and Lalighat Bazaar are reeling under high risk of flood and inundation. Even a bridge, shops and buildings are waterlogged in the area.

Police have been mobilized in the area for rescue operation when required, said CDO Jagat Bahadur Basnet.

Rainfall damages 11 house in Jumla

In yet another incident, the rainfall has brought damages to 11 houses at Semne in Humla district headquarter Simikot. Now the area is waterlogged.
