Tarai bandh hits life in Dang‚ called off in Kailali
Tulsipur, June 7 – The indefinite Tarai bandh enforced by the Freed Kamlari Struggle Committee has affected normal life in Dang district on Friday.
The struggle committee has called for a general strike in 22 districts of Tarai, demanding that identity cards be issued to them, treatment be provided to those who were injured in course of picketing the Singh Durbar on June 2 and action against the perpetrators.
Schools, colleges, markets and transport have been totally halted in the area due to the general strike.
The committee has warned to continue the bandh until and unless their demands are addressed.
Meanwhile, life in Kailali district has returned to normal after the Freed Kamlari Struggle Committee withdrew the indefinite Tarai bandh from today.
Schools, colleges and markets have opened and transport has come into regular operation after the committee took back its bandh programme.
Though the talks with the government have not reached to a conclusion, the bandh has been lifted considering the difficulty faced by the people, said Prabhat Kumar Chaudhary of the Tharu Welfare Council.
