Govt raises insurance of mountaineering workers

Kathmandu, June 5 – The government has raised the mountaineering accident and medical insurance for the individuals who are involved in the sector effective from January 1, 2014.
The cabinet meeting last week had decided to increase the accident insurance along with compensation and medical expenses, according to Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA).
The accident insurance of liaison officers has been increased to Rs. 800,000 from Rs. 600,000 while accident insurance coverage for Sardar, mountain guides and high altitude worker has been increased to Rs. 1 million.
Similarly, the insurance of individuals working at base camp areas has been raised to Rs. 800,000 from existing Rs 350,000 while workers in lower altitude has been increased to Rs. 500,000 from existing Rs 250,000.
Similarly, medical insurance of liaison officers and other workers have been increased to Rs. 300,000 from Rs. 50,000.
