People arrested with red panda hide made public

Heutada, June 3 – The Hetauda Police have made public smugglers of red panda hide who were arrested red-handed from Ratmate of East-West Highway a few days ago.
They were made public through a press conference here today. They are Thaneshwor Rijal, 25, of Dumre Dharapani of Khotang, Bhakta Bahadur Shrestha, 44, of Moli VDC-4 of Okhaldhunga district, Tej Bahadur Limbu, 26, of Aidim VDC-2 of Tehrathum district and Pasang Nima Sherpa of Jaljala VDC-2 of Sankhuwasabha district, the District Police Office, Makwanpur said.
The arrested have been handed over to the District Forest Office Makwanpur. The gang was arrested in possession of three pieces of red panda skin from Ratmate along the East-West Highway while they were heading towards the capital from Khotang.
According to District Forest Officer Emaddin Ansari, preparations for filing a case under the Wildlife Act against the arrested are underway.
Red panda is enlisted in protected wildlife list and its killing and sale of its organs are banned in Nepal.
