Yugkavi Siddhicharan remembered
Kathmandu, May 22 – Yugkavi Siddhicharan Shrestha was remembered on Wednesday organizing a memorial and condolence assembly on the occasion of his 102th birth anniversary.
During the program organized at Ombahal in the capital by Siddhicharan Memorial Foundation, different poets and litterateurs smeared vermilion powder at the statue of the late poet. Various poets recited their creations on the occasion.
Dr. Anandadev Bhatta, Modnath Prashrit, Dr. Avi Subedi, Shyamdas Baishnav, Subarna Shakya, Ram Krishna Duwal, and kin of Shrestha, among others smeared vermilion powder on the statue and remembered the poet.
Nature poet Shrestha had written his creations in Nepali and Nepal Bhasha (Newari) mostly in free verse. Some of his poems are translated and read in English language as well.
Speaking at the programme, Dr. Bhatta said poet Shrestha had made remarkable contribution to the transformation of the society through literature in Nepali and Newari languages and that the Nepali people heartily accept him all the time.
Senior litterateur, Prashrit, said Shrestha, who was rich in patriotic and progressive conscience had published his creations on the life of the working class people, adding that he would like to remember and respect him as a poet of the level of universal conscience.
