EC to prepare ballot papers in Braille for visually impaired

Kathmandu, May 13 – Visually impaired people will also be able to vote in the next CA elections. This is the first time in Nepal's election history.
The Election Commission (EC) came to the conclusion to prepare ballot papers in Braille for the visually impaired after long discussions.
EC Commissioner Dolakh Bahadur Gurung said preparations are on to make the polling booths disabled -friendly wherever there is road transport in the district headquarters.
A disabled friendly ramp will be made for wheel chair users, said Gurung.
The Commission is to adopt process for voting through voters list with photo all over the country. This will enable minimization of voting on another's name and rigging ensuring impartial election.
The commission has so far collected name list of 11.l3 million voters with photos. Voting through electronic voting machine used in Kathmandu Constituency-1 in the first CA election will be extended this time. But it is not yet decided in which districts it will be used, it said.
Cooperation of all stakeholders and coordination and goodwill is necessary for making political atmosphere for election, said another commissioner Dr. Ayodhi Prasad Yadav.
Election will gain momentum soon after identifying what the real problem and issue is, said Yadav.
Voters are eager to vote as election environment is created as it was found in interactions in 15 places in 44 districts, the EC said.
On this, Commissioner Gurung also said voters are excited and they want election. RSS
