Revenue collection up by 22 pts

Kathmandu,April 24 – The government’s revenue has increased by some 22.30 percent to Rs. 210.46 billion during the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2012/13. The government had mobilised Rs. 172.09 billion during the same period last fiscal year.

According to Finance Ministry, the government collected Rs. 48.26 billion in value added tax (VAT), Rs. 48.26 billion in income tax, Rs. 41.64 billion in customs, Rs. 26.35 billion in non-tax revenue, Rs. 7.13 billion in registration fee and vehicle tax and Rs. 242.6 million in education tax.

Meanwhile, the government mobilised Rs. 32.49 billion in revenue in first nine months alone (mid-March to mid-April). Revenue worth Rs. 29.85 billion was collected in tax and Rs. 2.63 billion in non-tax during this period.

The rise in imports of petroleum products, readymade garments and communication equipment among others along with control of revenue leakage contributed in the growth of revenue collection, according to Finance Ministry.
