Mid and far west districts paralysed by second day of strike
Kailali,April 17- Vehicular movement has come to a complete halt while businesses and educational institutions remain mostly closed in five districts in mid and far-west Nepal for the second consecutive day on Wednesday due to a two-day bandh imposed by various organisations affiliated to the Tharu community. The worse effects of the two-day bandh has been seen in five districts of the region -Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur – where vehicles mostly stayed off the road and shops and businesses remained shut due to the bandh organised by Tharu organisations to protest against alleged murder of a kamlari. However, government offices in the districts remained open, but few people came to take their services due to lack of transportation.
A Joint Struggle committee, comprising over a dozen organisations affiliated to the Tharu community, enforced the two-day bandh in Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur protesting what they deem as “failure” of authorities to properly investigate the alleged murder of Srijana Chaudhary, a 12-year old kamlari from Lamatiya in Dang, at the house of an engineer Yubaraj Poudel in Lalitpur about three weeks ago.
