KATHMANDU, JULY 7: There have been investment commitments worth Rs 217 billion in the 11 months of the current fiscalyear in the country. In the last Nepali month of Jestha (mid-May to mid-June), 59 enterprises with investment commitments of Rs 37.20 billion were registered.
From mid-July to mid-June of 2023/24, the country received Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) commitments amounting to Rs 44.34 billion, pledged for 355 projects. In the month of Jestha alone, foreigners committed Rs 3 billion to direct investment. The government had anticipated FDI commitments worth Rs 38 billion for this fiscal year, an expectation that has been exceeded by more than Rs 6 billion.
On April 30 this year, the government held the 3rd Investment Summit in Kathmandu to spur both domestic and foreign investment in the country. Experts note that following the summit, there has been an increase in investment commitments, both domestic and foreign.
It is estimated that if all these investment commitments are realized, more than 27,000 jobs will be created in the country, with 18,000 of those jobs coming from FDI commitments alone.
