Inflation down by over 2.50 percent
KATHMANDU, JULY 11 : The year-on-year consumer price inflation declined by 2.66 percent to 4.17 percent in the last Nepali month of Jestha (mid-May to mid-June) this year compared to the same month last year. It was revealed by the Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation Report of Nepal of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).
The food and beverage category inflation stood at 5.76 percent whereas non-food and service category inflation stood at 2.94 percent in the review month.
Under the food and beverage category, the year-on-year price index of vegetable sub-category rose by 16.02 percent, pulses and legumes by 11.76 percent, cereal grains and their products by 7.32 percent, sugar and sugar products by 6.98 percent and non-alcoholic drinks by 5.95 percent. Likewise, prices of ghee and oil sub-category went down by 5.51 percent in the review month.
Under the non-food and services category, the prices of miscellaneous goods and services sub-category increased 12.47 percent, education 5.64 percent and clothes and footwear 3.46 percent. The price index of communication sub-category decreased 0.48 percent and transportation 0.18 percent.
During the review month, cthe onsumer price inflation in the Kathmandu Valley stood at 4.25 percent compared to 7.19 percent last year. Terai region witnessed price hike of 3.82 percent from 6.93 percent, hilly region 4.63 percent from 6.28 percent and mountain region had inflation of 4.77 percent compared to 6.39 percent a year ago.
