Thai AirAsia permmitted to fly to Kathmandu and Bhairawaha

KATHMANDU, APRIL 2: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has decided to permit Thai AirAsia to operate flights from both Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu and Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in Bhairahawa.
According to reports, the Thailand-based international airline will be conducting four flights from GBIA and three flights from TIA after a hiatus of five years.
The airline had expressed willingness to operate daily flights from Tribhuvan International Airport. However, as the airport will be closed for 10 hours daily starting on November 1, 2024, for upgrade work, this desire could not materialize.
Thai AirAsia, operating with a fleet of 58 aircraft, has appointed Universal Tours and Travels as its General Sales Agent (GSA) in Nepal.
Some five years ago, the airline ceased its operations in Nepal, owing Rs 270 million to the CAAN. But since last February, it has been clearing its outstanding dues through the monthly payment of Rs 125 million.
The GBIA, inaugurated on May 16, 2022, currently has no regular international flights. Previously, Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways and Himalaya Airlines conducted such flights only to stop later.
