US Deputy Secretary of State, Verma, pays courtesy call on PM Oli
KATHMANDU, AUGUST 16: The United States Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard R. Verma, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
During the meeting held today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar, they discussed matters of bilateral relations and mutual welfare, according to the PM Oli’s Secretariat.
PM Oli expressed his gratitude for the continuous support of the US government in Nepal’s socio-economic development since 1950. He also conveyed his expectations for continued cooperation from the US in various areas of Nepal’s development. The Prime Minister mentioned that Nepal is in the process of graduating from a least developed country to a developing country by 2026. He added that laws related to Nepal’s transitional justice are also in the process of finalization based on political consensus.
Recalling the 77-year bilateral relations between the two countries, Deputy Secretary of State Verma said it was a matter of happiness for the US to be a partner in Nepal’s development.
The Deputy Secretary also congratulated Nepal for advancing transitional justice towards a logical conclusion.
Verma arrived in Nepal today for a day-long visit. PM Oli’s Chief Advisor, Bishnu Rimal, and officials from the Foreign Ministry, among others, were present on the occasion.
