Sagarmatha National Park collects over Rs 20 million in revenue from entry fees

SOLUKHUMBU , OCTOBER 27 : Nearly 9,000 trekkers visited the Sagarmatha region, also known as the Khumbu region, within a month.
According to data from the Sagarmatha National Park office in Namche, 8,902 visitors arrived in the area between mid-September and mid-October this year.
The park collected over Rs 20 million in revenue from entry fees, Bibek Shrestha, an official at the park’s office.
Nepali citizens are charged an entry fee of Rs 100 per person, while visitors from SAARC-member countries pay Rs 1,500 each. Tourists from other countries are required to pay Rs 3,000 per person.
In contrast, the park recorded only 125 trekkers between mid-July and mid-August, with numbers rising to 1,331 from mid-August to mid-September. These visits generated about Rs 3.6 million in revenue, according to Shrestha.
“The number of arrivals surged last month with the start of the tourist season,” Shrestha added.
Nepal’s peak tourist season spans six months, typically from March to May and September to November. During these periods, the park sees an average of about 1,000 tourists entering daily.
