New immigration office at Korala esablished
Office has 10-room immigration and security post having prefabricated technology

GANDAKI, OCTOBER 30: A new immigration office has been inaugurated at the Korala border point (border post no. 24), located in the upper Mustang region along the Nepal-China border. Previously, only residents of Mustang with special permits from the District Administration Office could trade through this route. With the opening of the new office, any Nepali citizen can now travel through Korala more easily.
The Nepal government set up a 10-room immigration and security post at Korala using prefabricated technology. To support its operations, the national power grid has been extended to the border, and Nepal Telecom has ensured internet and mobile service coverage.
On the Chinese side, all essential infrastructure, including a customs office, has already been established. During today’s inauguration of the new office, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak expressed hope that it will further strengthen Nepal-China relations. He also highlighted its importance in promoting bilateral trade and easing the movement of peoples between the two countries.
Located at an altitude of 4,650 meters, the Korala border was officially opened last year on Kartik 27 (November) through a joint ceremony led by Norbu Chiring, Magistrate of Zhomba County in Shigatse, China, and Janak Raj Pant, the Chief District Officer of Mustang.
With its strategic location between China in the north and India in the south, this border point is expected to play a key role in boosting trade, tourism, and economic development for Gandaki Province.
