Power demand reaches 1,602 MW on Laxmi Puja

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 2: Electricity demand surged to 1,602 megawatts during Laxmi Puja this Tihar, marking the highest peak demand recorded this year. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) reported this peak at 6:25 PM on Thursday, the day of Laxmi Puja.
This year’s peak demand represents an increase of 164 megawatts compared to last year’s Laxmi Puja, which saw a peak of 1,438 megawatts. The NEA clarified that this figure excludes industrial customers, as many industries and factories typically remain closed during the Tihar festival.
Power was supplied from various plants across the country to meet the demand. Additionally, after fulfilling domestic demand during peak hours, a surplus of 253 megawatts was exported to India.
Overall, the total electricity demand, including exports, reached 1,855 megawatts during Laxmi Puja this year, down from 1,955 megawatts last year.
