Marsyangdi hydropower operating at full capacity even during winter
The Marsyangdi Hydropower Center, located in Aabukhaireni Rural Municipality-4, is generating electricity at full capacity even during the winter season. Despite the typically low water flow during this time, intermittent rainfall has ensured that production has not decreased.
The center's chief engineer, Pashupati Gautam, stated that three units are currently producing a total of 69 megawatts of electricity, with each unit generating 23 megawatts. "The continuous heavy rainfall in October, followed by more torrential rains, has enabled us to maintain full production capacity," he said. "With the current abundant water supply, we expect to continue producing at full capacity for at least another month."
Last year, during the dry season, the limited snowmelt and reduced water from tributary rivers, streams, and waterfalls resulted in a decrease in production to 30 megawatts. However, Gautam confirmed that the center is now operating at full capacity.
According to Gautam, the electricity produced by the center is transmitted to the national grid through a transmission line that connects the station in Bharatpur, Chitwan, to Kathmandu.
