NEA's Executive Director warns to again disconnect power if dues not settled within 15 days

KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 13: Kulman Ghising, the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), has announced that electricity lines for industries that fail to settle their overdue bills within 15 days will be disconnected again. This directive follows the Nepalese government's instruction to recover outstanding payments within the same timeframe.
While speaking at a press meeting today, Ghising stated, "According to the directive from the Nepal government, dues must be paid within 15 days. If payments are not made during this period, we will proceed with our process of disconnection.
He also emphasized that if dues remain unpaid after this deadline, the responsibility will also fall on the Ministry of Energy. "While the NEA has received orders to reconnect lines within 24 hours if they are legally cut due to non-payment, the responsibility for collecting dues now also lies with the ministry
According to him, the NEA disconnects around 200,000 lines each year due to unpaid bills. Furthermore, Ghising said that during load-shedding periods, industries have accrued substantial arrears for electricity usage. "I remain committed to recovering these dues despite the challenges involved."
