Rice yield decreases in Chitwan

CHITWAN, NOVEMBER 21: Rice harvests in Chitwan have declined this year compared to the previous year, according to the Agriculture Development Office.
This year, the district produced 112,092.48 metric tonnes of rice, down from 114,269.4 metric tonnes in the previous year. Rice was cultivated on 27,270 hectares of land, but productivity also decreased, with an average yield of 4.12 metric tonnes per hectare.
The Office attributed the drop in production to plant diseases such as dirty panicle, rice leaf folder, panicle blight, and insect infestations in some areas of eastern Chitwan.
Chitwan cultivates several rice varieties, including Chaite 5, Sabitri, Bar, Bahuguni 2, Hardinath 1, Hardinath 6, Piyare, Sawa Mansuli, Moti, Gorakhnath, Jiramasino, and Ram.
