"Lumbini Ceramics is looking to reshape Nepali tile industy"
KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 26 : Lumbini Ceramics was founded in 2019 in Gulariya of the Bardiya district. It commenced its official operations on August 17, 2024. and started production last October.
The board of directors of this public limited company includes Subrat Ghital, Shyam Sundar Khetan, Ashutosh Khetan, Sini Khetan, Shashi Churiyal, and Srijana Aryal.
According to Abhinav Churiwal, Director of Lumbini Ceramics, it is Nepal's first company to produce laminated ceramic vitrified tiles under the brand name of Laminar. Spread across an area of 12-bigha (approximately 1.8-hectare) site, its factory has a daily production capacity of 140,000 square feet of tiles. The products are being manufactured by using cutting-edge machinery imported from Spain, Italy, China, and India. In its first year of operation, the factory aims to operate at 80% of its total capacity.
Currently, the factory produces the tiles in three different sizes—16x16, 2x2, and 2x4-under the brand name of Laminar. A plan is there to come up with two more sizes within months to diversify the brand. Priced between NPR 80 and NPR 200 per square foot depending on size, the brand is said to be 15 to 20 rupees (per square foot) cheaper than competing products in the market.
Lumbini Ceramics has earned certifications in three areas: ISO 9001:2015 for quality management systems, ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management systems, and ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety management systems.
"The rising demand for ceramic tiles in the country has led to the establishment of several domestic factories, while a large quantity of tiles from countries like India are being imported. Amid this competitive landscape, the Laminar brand is positioning itself as a prominent player in the Nepali market," Churiwal states.
"In various types of physical constructions, our products are, of course, being increasingly preferred. This can attributed to their unique features like low porosity, superior load-bearing capacity, resistance to burns, and unmatched whiteness."
According to him, Lumbini Ceramics has a dedicated workforce of 300 people.
With its focus on innovation, quality, and affordability, Lumbini Ceramics is said to be committed towards meeting the domestic demand of ceramic tiles effectively and efficiently.
