Kathmandu metropolis undertaking feasibility study on blue landscape
KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 27 : Kathmandu Metropolis is undertaking a comprehensive feasibility study to enhance its urban environment by revitalizing both its blue and green landscapes. The study, which commenced on July 1, 2024, is scheduled to conclude on March 31, 2024.
The primary focus of the study is on rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and improved water distribution systems, renewal of green corridors, revitalization of river systems like the Bagmati River, and promotion of urban greenery, development of comprehensive informal settlement management plans, pilot projects for sustainable urban development, and enhancement of urban green spaces such as parks and forests.
According to Urban Planning Commission member Baburam Bhattarai, previous efforts to improve the city's environment have been hindered by a sector-based approach. This new study, supported by the Asian Development Bank, aims to adopt an integrated approach to address the city's multifaceted challenges and foster sustainable urban development.
