Tourist arrivals cross 1 million mark in 11 months

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 1: The number of tourists visiting Nepal has exceeded 1 million within just 11 months of this year. According to data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), 1,055,533 tourists visited Nepal between January and November 2024. This marks the third time that tourist arrivals have crossed the 1 million mark, generating excitement in the tourism industry.

Last November alone, 114,501 tourists arrived in Nepal, as reported by the Board. "Out of them, 19,915 tourists came from India, a decrease of 18.5% compared to the same period last year, when 24,443 Indian tourists visited.

Similarly, 10,981 tourists arrived from the United States, a 4.2% decrease compared to November 2023. The United Kingdom sent 6,611 tourists, while 9,458 visitors came from China, reflecting a 24.5% increase compared to last year’s November.

In addition, 4,829 tourists came from Australia, which is a 4.5% decrease compared to the same period last year. In November 2023, 5,148 tourists visited Nepal from Bangladesh and 4,395 from Sri Lanka.

According to the Board, last month 31,167 tourists arrived from SAARC countries, 24,897 from other Asian countries, 26,155 from Europe, and 1,488 from the Middle East.

In November last year, Nepal welcomed 108,630 tourists, marking a 5.4% increase in the same month this year.

In 2024, the country saw 79,100 tourists in January, 97,426 in February, 128,167 in March, 111,376 in April, 90,211 in May, 76,736  in July, 72,719 in August, 96,305 in September, and 124,393 in October.
