TikTok removes 6,078 videos
KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 4: TikTok has removed 6,078 videos in Nepal over the past two months for violating its community guidelines. According to a TikTok representative, 99.1% of the videos posted between April and June were removed immediately, while 93.2% were deleted within 24 hours.
This data was presented yesterday at the Digital Safety Summit Nepal, organized by TikTok in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Kathmandu.
At the event, TikTok representative Sidra Jalil presented a working paper outlining TikTok's regulatory guidelines. Jalil highlighted that TikTok has categorized users by age groups to foster a dignified and systematic platform. As per the guidelines, users must be at least 16 years old to send direct messages and 18 years old to host live streams.
However, Jalil noted that a lack of awareness regarding the responsible use of social media has led to improper adherence to these guidelines.
Fordous Mottakin, TikTok's Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia, reiterated TikTok's commitment to collaborating with the Government of Nepal to promote digital literacy and online safety. He emphasized that these guidelines aim to enhance the online safety of children and youth, adding that TikTok is taking precautionary measures to create a secure online environment for its users in Nepal.
