Paddy and millet production up in Myagdi

GALESHWOR (MYAGDI),Paddy and millet production in Myagdi has seen a significant increase this year compared to the previous year. According to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, paddy production has surged by five percent, while millet production has grown by two percent.
Ganga Lamichhane, Agriculture Extension Officer at the Centre, confirmed that the production of various crops, including millets, vegetables, and fruits, has also witnessed an upward trend.
Favorable weather conditions, minimal disease impact, and timely rainfall during critical growth stages contributed to this year's increased paddy yield. Paddy was cultivated across 3,806 hectares of land within the district's one municipality and five rural municipalities, resulting in a total production of 13,664 metric tons. In comparison, last year's yield from the same area amounted to 12,979 metric tons.
Sanjeev Bastola, Chief of the Centre, attributed this year's improved production to the favorable climatic conditions and reduced disease pressure.
Myagdi, spanning 2,297 square kilometers, boasts 30,856 hectares of cultivable land. However, currently, only 19,498 hectares are actively utilized for agricultural purposes
