Earthquake with epicentre in Tibet shakes Nepal's eastern belt, federal capital

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 7: An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre in Dinggye County, Tibet, China, also shook Nepal's federal capital, Kathmandu.
According to Lok Bijay Adhikari, a senior divisional seismologist at the Department of Minerals and Geology, the tremor occurred at 6:50 a.m., causing panic, particularly in the eastern hilly districts of Nepal, including Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Sankhuwasabha, and Bhojpur, as well as in parts of the Terai region.
A local resident from Salleri, the headquarters of Solukhumbu district, informed the RSS that although the earthquake lasted for a significant duration, no damage was reported in Salleri Bazaar. Solukhumbu district shares a border with Tibet, China.
The tremor was also felt in the Kathmandu Valley and its surrounding areas, prompting people to rush out into the streets. Detailed information on the impact is still awaited.
