Health Minstry assures public: HMPV not a cause for concern

The Ministry of Health and Population has assured the public that the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) circulating in China is a common virus and there is no need for panic.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the Ministry addressed concerns arising from misinformation regarding the virus on various media platforms and social media. It urged the public to disregard such rumours.
"Increased respiratory illnesses are common during the winter season," the statement read. "HMPV is not a new virus. It primarily causes cold-like symptoms and has been previously observed in Nepal. The country is well-prepared with testing, monitoring, and treatment measures for this virus."
The Ministry emphasized that the risk of serious health complications from HMPV is low. However, individuals with weakened immune systems, children, and the elderly may be more susceptible.
The Ministry further stated that it, along with the Department of Health Services, hospitals, and laboratories, has intensified monitoring and alertness measures.
