Labour Advisory Council recommends ratification of key ILO conventions

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 12: The Central Labour Advisory Council of Nepal, established under Clause 102 of the Labour Act, 2074, has recommended the government ratify various core International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions.
During a recent meeting, the Council urged the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to expedite the ratification process for Convention No. 81 (Labour Inspection, 1947), Convention No. 87 (Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize, 1948), and Convention No. 29 (Forced Labour, 1930) along with its 2014 Protocol.
Chaired by Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sarat Singh Bhandari, the Council also reviewed the implementation status of its previous decisions.
The meeting focused on enhancing labour administration, social security, and occupational safety. It emphasized the need to systematize the works of the Minimum Wage Fixation Committee, pursue the revision of the minimum wage, expand the scope of social security, and conduct timely revisions of labour laws.
Furthermore, the Council recommended ensuring the success of the upcoming Labour and Employment Conference, scheduled for February 28 and March 1, 2025 in Kathmandu.
