Over Rs 100 billion estimated for post-disaster reconstruction process

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 14: The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority (NDRRMA) estimates that over Rs 100 billion will be needed to rebuild disaster-damaged infrastructure across Nepal. This figure was presented at the 16th meeting of the National Disaster Council, which also approved a comprehensive plan for post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation.
The plan includes Road and Transportation (Rs 28 billion for 381 damaged structures), Public Offices and Buildings (Rs 2 billion for 176 damaged buildings), Electricity (Rs 2.119 billion for damaged infrastructure), Alternative and Irrigation (Rs 17 billion for reconstruction), Personal Residences (Rs 40 billion for 115,558 damaged homes), Educational Institutions (Rs 5 billion for 1,562 damaged schools), Health Sector (Rs 700 million for 90 damaged health facilities), Drinking Water and Sanitation (Rs 6 billion for 813 damaged projects), and Archeological Heritage (Rs 6 billion for retrofitting and reconstruction of 33 damaged sites).
The 2024 monsoon season alone caused over Rs 46 billion in infrastructure damage. The government aims to complete reconstruction within three years by mobilizing resources from all levels of government and seeking international assistance if needed.
