Tea worth Rs 2.95 billion exported in six months

BHADRAPUR, JANUARY 21: The Mechi Customs Office has recorded a 55.70 per cent increase in tea exports over the past six months of the current fiscal year. The export value during this period reached nearly Rs 3 billion.
A total of 11,232 metric tons of tea was exported via the Mechi Customs Office, according to Information Officer Ganapati Kandel. In the corresponding period of the previous year, the export value was Rs 1.90 billion.
Aditya Parajuli, Chairman of the Tea Producers' Association, highlighted this as a positive trend in tea exports. He attributed the rise in exports largely to a decrease in tea production in India. "If the government ensures further facilitation for tea exports, considering the growing demand in the Indian market, foreign trade in tea could reach even higher levels," he said.
Additionally, the Mechi Customs Office reported a 16 per cent increase in black cardamom exports over the past six months. The export value of black cardamom amounted to Rs 4.55 billion, compared to Rs 3.90 billion during the same period last year.
Another product showing growth in exports was plywood, which saw a 27.90 percent increase. Cement clinker exports also rose significantly during this time.
However, exports of certain products such as iron, chhurpi, ginger, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and others witnessed a decline.
