"PM Oli calls for coordinated efforts to strengthen anti-money laundering

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 27: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among agencies involved in the anti-money laundering system to reduce financial crimes.

In his message on the occasion of the First National Anti-Money Laundering Day, 2081 B.S  (2025), Prime Minister Oli highlighted the need for collaboration among reporting institutions, regulatory bodies, law enforcement agencies, and judicial authorities within the system.

“The anti-money laundering system must function effectively to uphold financial integrity by preventing the infiltration of assets derived from criminal activities into the financial system,” the Prime Minister’s message stated. “The criminal misuse of assets not only threatens the economy but also challenges governance transparency. I extend my best wishes for enhanced effectiveness in prevention efforts and for maintaining financial integrity in the days ahead.”

The Prime Minister also encouraged individuals engaged in professions, businesses, or trades with good intentions to continue their work with confidence and without hesitation. His message was read aloud at the event venue.

The day was celebrated for the first time under the theme “Transparency in Financial Activities: Commitment to Anti-Money Laundering,” organized by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation. The Government of Nepal decided to mark this day annually on Magh (Nepali month) 14, commemorating the enactment of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2008.
