Nepali students spend nearly Rs 56.83 billion on overseas education

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 3: Nepali students have spent approximately Rs 56.83 billion on foreign education in the first six months of the current fiscal year, according to a report published by Nepal Rastra Bank. While this marks a decline of Rs 2 billion compared to Rs 58.95 billion recorded in the same period last year, the overall trend of capital outflow for education continues to rise.
Meanwhile, travel expenses under the services account surged by 9.7%, reaching Rs 101.92 billion during the review period this year, up from Rs 92.87 billion in the corresponding period of 2023/24.
The net service income recorded a deficit of NPR 43.53 billion in the first six months of 2024/25, widening from NPR 35.43 billion recorded in the same period last year. However, tourism revenue saw a 5.1% increase during the review period, reaching Rs 41.86 billion compared to Rs 39.82 billion recorded in the corresponding period last year.
