Finance Minister stresses on maximum use of information technology

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 5: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has underscored the importance of modernizing and enhancing the effectiveness and reliability of information technology systems used in government service delivery.

During a discussion on Tuesday regarding the status of IT systems within the Ministry of Finance and its subordinate agencies, he emphasized that leveraging advanced technology is crucial for making service delivery faster, more efficient, and seamless. He instructed relevant authorities to adopt cutting-edge technology to ensure uninterrupted services, prevent disruptions due to IT system failures, and develop the necessary human resources and technical expertise for IT operations.

Officials from various agencies reported that their IT systems undergo periodic audits and are secure from a cybersecurity standpoint. They also presented investment plans to enhance system backup capacity. However, they highlighted a growing demand for skilled technical personnel, noting that retaining such talent within government agencies remains challenging due to inadequate benefits.

In response, Finance Minister Poudel assured that the government will take necessary policy measures to address these concerns.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Nepal Rastra Bank, the Office of the Comptroller General, the Inland Revenue Department, the Customs Department, the Citizens Investment Fund, the Nepal Insurance Board, the Nepal Securities Board, the Nepal Stock Exchange, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Nepal Bank Limited, and other related agencies.
