Decline in export trade from Makawanpur District

HETAUDA, FEBRUARY 8 : Export trade from Makawanpur district to India and third countries has seen a significant decline. Compared to the first six months of the previous fiscal year (2023/24), exports during the first six months of the current fiscal year (2024/25) have decreased.
From the start of the current fiscal year (Shrawan to Poush), exports from Makawanpur totaled Rs 55,907,993. According to the Makawanpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCC), which issues certificates of origin, export-oriented industries and businesses in the district had exported products worth Rs227,080,310 during the same period last year.
The Chamber reported that five commercial establishments and industries were involved in exports during both the first six months of the previous fiscal year and the first six months of the current fiscal year. Senior Vice President of the Chamber, Deepak Upreti, explained that the decline in exports is largely due to the ongoing economic downturn and an unfavorable investment climate, which has hindered expected export growth.
Industries such as Pact Group Closure, Riddhi Siddhi Cement Industries, Evans Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., and Six Villa Pvt. Ltd. have been responsible for exports from Makawanpur in the current fiscal year. These businesses have exported products like plastic bricks, cement, lotus powder, pasta, and snacks.
The Chamber also noted that the decline in exports during the first six months of the current fiscal year is partly due to ongoing repairs at Pact Group Closure. Evans Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd., which had previously been recognized by the Chamber for its significant contribution to exports, has also played a key role in the trade.
Last fiscal year, Khajuri Nepal Pvt. Ltd., which exported products like biscuits and popcorn to India, has not made any exports during the current fiscal year. Last year, industries in Makawanpur exported goods worth Rs 435,394,994 to India and third countries.
