Only Rs 1,692.93 billion expected to be spent out of Rs 1,860.30 billion in current fiscal

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 6: The government has released a revised estimate indicating that only 90.99 percent of the budget target for the current fiscal year 2024/25 will be utilized.
On Thursday, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel presented the semi-annual budget review report to the House of Representatives, announcing the updated projections.
The government had initially allocated a budget of Rs 1,860.30 billion for this fiscal year. However, according to Minister Paudel, the actual expenditures by the end of the fiscal year are expected to reach only Rs 1,692.93 billion.
Current expenditures are projected to amount to Rs 1,029.30 billion, representing 90.24 percent of the target. Capital expenditures are estimated at Rs 299.50 billion, which accounts for 85 percent of the target. Meanwhile, financial management-related expenditures have been revised to Rs 363.93 billion, constituting 99.09 percent of the target.
Revenue mobilization is expected to reach Rs 1,286 billion. The government anticipates generating Rs 1,475 billion through revenue collection and domestic borrowing.
To bridge the remaining financial gap, the government will need to rely on foreign grants and external loans, estimated at Rs 36.62 billion and Rs 180.83 billion, respectively.
