Bandipur attracts over 10,000 foreign tourists in 3 months

BANDIPUR, FEBRUARY 16: Bandipur, a prominent tourist destination in Tanahun, welcomed 10,126 foreign tourists over the past three months. According to data from the Bandipur Tourism Police, Bandipur Cable Car, and the Hotel Association of Bandipur Market, this figure represents visitors from mid-November to mid-February.

Assistant Inspector Rudra Bahadur Jhakri of the Tourism Police reported that 5,793 tourists registered with the police. Meanwhile, 2,352 foreign tourists traveled to Bandipur via the cable car, and an additional 1,981 stayed at various hotels, according to the Hotel Association’s records.

The largest group of visitors came from China, with 1,500 Chinese tourists arriving in January alone. Other international visitors included tourists from Germany, Spain, Italy, France, the USA, and the Netherlands.

Bandipur’s natural beauty, ancient wooden houses, and breathtaking views of the Himalayan range have captivated tourists. From the village, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machapuchare, and Manaslu mountains in one stunning vista.

Rural Municipality Chairman Surendra Bahadur Thapa announced that 2025 will be celebrated as “Visit Bandipur Year,” with a target of attracting 100,000 foreign tourists and 200,000 domestic tourists.

Currently, about 80 hotels and a dozen homestays are operating in Bandipur. The destination is easily accessible via an 8-kilometer journey from Dumre Bazaar, and with the newly launched cable car, tourists can now reach Bandipur in just seven minutes, further enhancing the accessibility and appeal of the area.
