FNCCI president stresses on reform, collaboration in agriculture sector

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 23: President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has emphasized the need for reforms and collaboration to harness Nepal’s agricultural potential.
Speaking at the Nepal Country Investment Discussion today, he highlighted that agriculture remains the backbone of the economy, necessitating appropriate strategies and programs to maximize its benefits.
Dhakal noted that while agriculture continues to employ a significant portion of the population and contribute substantially to GDP, challenges such as limited access to finance, fragmented land ownership, and outdated technology have hindered its success.
He stressed that financial inclusion alone is not enough and called for a broader approach to enhance the agricultural value chain, connect farmers to markets, and ensure better access to capital for small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises.
To foster rural entrepreneurship, Dhakal underscored the need for greater investment in agriculture and rural infrastructure. He also shared his personal efforts in formalizing remittances and expanding financial services in rural areas, aiming to empower farmers, women entrepreneurs, and small businesses.
He further mentioned that FNCCI, under his leadership, has established Nepal Development Public Limited Company to invest in projects and businesses that can transform Nepal’s economic landscape.
Expressing gratitude to development partners for their support in agriculture and other sectors, Dhakal called for stronger collaboration between the government, private sector, and stakeholders to build a prosperous economy.
