Mid-Kaligandaki project construction begins

MYAGDI, MARCH 6: The construction of the 66.3 MW Mid-Kaligandaki Hydropower Project has commenced in Annapurna Rural Municipality, Myagdi.

Rasuwa Multi JV, the contractor mobilized at the project site, is leading the construction on behalf of IME Group’s Lagani Hydro Support Pvt. Ltd. The first phase of construction is now underway. According to the project’s engineer, Bidyut Jung Rawat, work has begun on the 200-meter-long approach culvert that connects the dam to the tunnel construction site.

The project aims to generate electricity by diverting water through a 4,800-meter-long tunnel to a powerhouse set to be built in Annapurna-2, Naunibagar. The tunnel will have three key sections: the inlet at Sukebagar, an audit near Narchiang Bridge, and the outlet at Naulibagar.

As per the plan, the run-of-the-river project will have its powerhouse, switchyard, and control room built underground. The generated electricity will be connected to the national grid via a 220 kV substation in Dana, located six kilometers upstream of Naulibagar.

With an estimated cost of Rs 12.93 billion, the project is expected to be completed within the next three years.
