NEPSE lists new securities amounting to over Rs 16 billion in 7 months

Bonus shares worth Rs 7.42 billion, rights shares Rs 3.91 billion, and ordinary shares Rs 750 million were newly listed

KATHMANDU, MARCH 11: Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) recorded an additional listing of securities worth Rs 16.66 billion in the first seven months of the current fiscal year.

According to the data published by Nepal Rastra Bank, the bonus shares worth Rs 7.42 billion, rights shares worth Rs 3.91 billion, and ordinary shares worth Rs 750 million were newly listed. Similarly, mutual funds worth Rs 1.25 billion, further public offerings (FPOs) worth Rs 445 million, and other shares worth Rs 3.96 billion were listed, bringing the total additional listing to Rs 16.66 billion.

During the review period, the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) approved the issuance of securities worth Rs 21.67 billion. Of this, Rs 10.20 billion was allocated for mutual funds, Rs 9.30 billion for rights shares, Rs 1.32 billion for debentures, and Rs 850.50 million for ordinary shares.

As of the end of Magh (mid-January to mid-February) the number of listed companies on the Nepal Stock Exchange stood at 268. Among them, 130 are banks, financial institutions, and insurance companies, while 91 are hydropower companies. Additionally, there are 22 manufacturing and processing industries, seven hotels, seven investment companies, four trading institutions, and seven companies from other sectors. In comparison, the number of listed companies was 271 during the corresponding period last year.

Among the listed companies, banks, financial institutions, and insurance companies together hold a 53.3 percent share of total market capitalization. Hydropower companies account for 16.7 percent, while investment companies hold 7.6 percent. Similarly, trading institutions make up 5.4 percent, manufacturing and processing industries 5.3 percent, hotels 2.7 percent, and the companies in "others" group hold a 9.0 percent share of the total market capitalization.

In the first seven months of 2024/25, the paid-up capital of 8.67 billion listed shares on the Nepal Stock Exchange amounted to Rs 854.91 billion.
