Ranganathan now new chair of SCBNL
He boasts over 32 years of banking experience across diverse geographies and business sectors
KATHMANDU, MARCH 25: The 469th Board meeting of Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Limited (SCBNL) has appointed Venugopal Ranganathan as the new Chairperson. The oath of office was successfully administered by Acting Governor, Dr. Neelam Dhungana Timsina, on Sunday (23 March).
Venugopal, who has been with SCBNL since June 2007, has held various senior roles, primarily within the risk management function for Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB). "Currently serving as the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) for India and the South Asia Cluster, which includes Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, he brings over 32 years of banking experience across diverse geographies and business sectors.
The newly appointed chair is a Chartered Accountant and has a proven track record in managing large portfolios through different economic cycles.
In addition to his role at SCBNL, Venugopal chairs the Board of SC Modelling and Analytics Company India and the Board Risk Committee of Standard Chartered Vietnam.
Commenting on his appointment, he highlighted Nepal's economic resilience, recent BB-credit rating, and strategic focus on renewable energy as key contributors to a positive outlook for SCBNL. According to him, the bank is ready to capitalize on emerging opportunities as Nepal integrates into global financial markets.
