Thai investors show willingness for investment after PM Oli's call

BANGKOK, APRIL 3: Thai businesspersons have expressed a strong interest in investing in Nepal’s tourism, hospitality, and construction materials sectors following Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s invitation.
During a discussion with PM Oli, Thai entrepreneurs explored investment opportunities, potential collaborations, and legal facilitation, including profit repatriation. They also inquired about Nepal’s foreign currency reserves and overall investment climate.
A delegation of Nepali industrialists and entrepreneurs encouraged Thai investors to capitalize on Nepal’s vast investment potential.
PM’s Economic and Development Advisor, Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, who attended the meeting, stated that discussions covered various aspects of investment. He emphasized that Nepal is committed to fostering an investor-friendly environment.
"Investors from the construction, hospitality, food processing, and tourism sectors participated and showed keen interest in investing in Nepal," Dr. Khatiwada noted.
Chandra Prasad Dhakal, Chairperson of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), highlighted that the discussions focused on key investment sectors.
"The Prime Minister urged investors to mobilize funds across various industries. Nepal has amended outdated investment laws to create a more business-friendly environment. The government's commitment to investment insurance has further encouraged Thai investors," Dhakal stated.
The discussions also covered Nepal’s plans to generate 10,000 MW of electricity under an agreement with India and the immense potential for expanding the country’s tourism industry.
