Agricultural produce worth Rs 18 billion exported via Kakarbhitta border transit

BHADRAPUR (JHAPA), APRIL 5: The Plant Quarantine and Pest Management Centre’s Quarantine Office in Kakarbhitta has reported that agricultural produce worth Rs 17.73 billion was exported through the Kakarbhitta border point during the first eight months of the current fiscal year.

According to the office’s Information Officer, Chandreshwar Thakur, the main export items include cardamom, tea, plywood and veneer, ginger, and broom grass (Amliso).

Among these, tea accounted for the highest export value at Rs 8.20 billion, followed by cardamom at Rs 5.24 billion, and plywood and veneer at Rs 2.73 billion.

Additional exports during this period included ginger worth Rs 260 million, broom grass worth Rs 760 million, cabbage worth Rs 80 million, herbs worth Rs 40 million, and lentils worth Rs 40 million, based on statistics provided by the office.

On the import side, agricultural goods worth Rs 2.44 billion were brought in through the eastern border over the same period. Major imported crops included maize, wheat, barley, oats, rye, hemp, and potatoes.

According to the data shared by the Quarantine Office, imports also included millet worth Rs 131 million, rice worth Rs 49 million, and fresh vegetables worth Rs 288 million. Additionally, fresh fruits valued at Rs 263 million, garlic worth Rs 644.6 million, and potatoes worth Rs 37 million were imported.
