From Tourism Board to Reporters' Club: Defaulters of Bhrikutimandap rent revealed

KATHMANDU, APRIL 5: The names of 51 organizations and individuals who have failed to pay rent for using the building and land at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu—owned by the Social Welfare Council—have been made public.
The Council issued a 35-day public notice in a national daily on April 3, 2025 revealing the list of defaulters. Among them are prominent institutions such as the Nepal Tourism Board and journalist Rishi Dhamala’s Reporters Club. The Board has outstanding dues of over Rs 1.67 crore, while the Club alone owes Rs 46,58,649.
The Bhrikutimandap Management Division of the Council listed entities ranging from the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Kathmandu Chapter, to the Kathmandu Valley Public Library.
According to the Division, repeated correspondence and public notices instructing payment have been ignored. It has warned that if the dues are not cleared within the stipulated timeframe, recovery will proceed in accordance with the law.
