Central bank governor to be appointed soon

KATHMANDU, APRIL 9: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has assured that a new governor of Nepal Rastra Bank will be appointed as soon as possible.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry on Tuesday, the Minister dismissed claims of delays caused by political disagreements, calling such statements false. He clarified that a recommendation committee has already been formed and a study is currently underway to facilitate the appointment process.

In the interim, Deputy Governor Dr. Neelam Dhungana Timsina has been entrusted with the responsibilities of Acting Governor.

Nepal Rastra Bank has been without a governor since the tenure of former Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari ended on April 6. A governor recommendation committee, led by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, has been tasked with proposing three candidates for the position. The government will then select one among them to head the central bank.
