Bagmati spends only 32.51% budget in 9 months

KATHMANDU, APRIL 22:The Bagmati Province Government has spent only 32.51 percent of its total budget in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.

According to Indraraj Sanjyal, Information Officer at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Planning, the province utilized 28.24 percent of its capital expenditure and 40.51 percent of its recurrent expenditure during the review period.

In terms of actual spending, the government used NPR 10.49 billion under capital expenditure and NPR 10.49 billion under recurrent expenditure—bringing the total expenditure to NPR 20.98 billion from Shrawan  ( mid-July to mid-August) to Chaitra (mid-March to mid-April) of the current FY.

The provincial government had announced a total budget of NPR 64.54 billion for this fiscal. Sanjyal noted that capital expenditure remains significantly lower compared to recurrent spending.

Among provincial entities, the Office of the Provincial Attorney General reported the highest spending rate at 68.43 percent, followed by the Provincial Assembly Secretariat at 43.69 percent. In contrast, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism had the lowest expenditure rate, at just 16.43 percent.

Sanjyal further explained that recurrent expenditures typically dominate during the first quarter of the fiscal year, while capital projects are implemented only after a few months into the year. As a result, overall expenditure appears relatively low at this stage.
