Nepal exports tea worth Rs 3.57 billion in 9 months

KATHMANDU, APRIL: Tea worth Rs 3.57 billion has been exported as of April 13, 2024, in the current fiscal year 2024/25, which began on July 16, 2024. Tea exports are expected to reach Rs 4.5 billion this year, according to the National Tea and Coffee Development Board.
Board official Chandra Puri stated that Nepal's tea sector has created around 60,000 jobs, with 171 tea estates and 120 small and medium tea processing centers. He also mentioned that tea was cultivated on a total of 20,760 hectares of land across the country during the fiscal year 2023/24. In that period, 27 million kilograms of processed tea were produced, with 15,203 tea farmers involved in the industry.
Puri further informed that in the previous fiscal year, 16.5 million kilograms of tea, worth Rs 3.63 billion, was exported.
In celebration of the 29th National Tea Day, the Board has organized a tea exhibition at Harihar Bhawan in Pulchowk today. The exhibition aims to promote Nepali tea in the international market.
Puri added that discussions would be held among representatives of tea farmers, workers, cooperatives, entrepreneurs, businesspeople, and concerned organizations, showcasing tea from various districts of the country in one place.
This year’s theme for National Tea Day is "Healthy Tea, Sustainable Market, Foundation of a Prosperous Nepal."
