President Paudel presents government's policies, programmes for upcoming fiscal

KATHMANDU, MAY 3: President Ramchandra Paudel has presented the government’s policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 BS (2025/26 AD) before a joint session of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly. The session was held at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwar and convened at 3:00 PM today. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli handed over a copy of the document to President Paudel prior to the presentation.
The Head of State was received at the Federal Parliament Building by Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Narayana Prasad Dahal, and Secretary-General of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Padma Prasad Pandey. Upon his arrival, a contingent of the Nepali Army presented a guard of honour to President Paudel, who also serves as the Supreme Commander of the Army.
The session was attended by the Vice President, former Prime Ministers, former Speakers, heads and representatives of constitutional bodies, diplomatic missions based in Kathmandu, and delegates from the private sector.
The event was broadcast live by Nepal Television, Radio Nepal, and other media outlets. The Federal Parliament Building was decorated with national flags and festoons for the occasion. The Secretariat had issued special passes and invitations to over 400 guests for the event.
According to Article 95 of the Constitution, the President may address either a meeting of any House or a joint sitting of both Houses of the Federal Parliament, and may summon members for this purpose. The President is constitutionally required to address the first session following the election of the House of Representatives and a joint sitting at the commencement of the first session of each year.
Preliminary discussions on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill are scheduled for May 13. In line with the constitutional calendar, the Finance Minister will present the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year before a joint session of Parliament on Jeth 15 (May 28).
