Kanchanpur–Kamala road expansion: overpass construction commences in Lahan
The project cost is estimated at over Rs. 15.60 billion

SIRAHA, MAY 7: The construction of an overpass has begun at Lahan Chowk as part of the Kanchanpur–Kamala road expansion under the East-West Highway. The project is being undertaken by China Railway No. 2 Engineering Group.
Out of the total 86.83 kilometres from Kanchanpur in Saptari to Kamala in Siraha, 62 percent of the 47-kilometre western section from Balan to Kamala has been completed. The overpass construction at Lahan Chowk began following the removal of the Shahid Memorial located there.
According to Saroj Koirala, Information Officer of the Kanchanpur–Kamala Road Project (Western Section, Siraha), two overpasses, each 32 meters wide, are being constructed in line with international standards. The work on another overpass has also commenced at Mirchaiya Chowk. Additionally, five underpasses are being constructed along this section, with rapid progress being made on the underpass in Lahan.
The total cost of the project is Rs. 15.66 billion. The contract for upgrading the 39-kilometre eastern section from Kanchanpur to Kushaha in Saptari has been awarded for Rs. 7.27 billion. Approximately 60 percent of the physical work in this section has already been completed, according to the project office.
