NA passes Government's Policies and Programmes for FY 2025-26

KATHMANDU, MAY 12 : A meeting of the National Assembly (NA) approved the government's policies and programmes for the upcoming financial year by a majority vote.

NA Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal yesterday announced that the document had been endorsed by a majority of the Assembly members.

Amendment proposals submitted by lawmakers on its various aspects were rejected by a majority vote.

Earlier, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had addressed the Assembly, responding to questions raised about the policies and programmes. He stated that the document was designed to promote good governance and accelerate development.

“The need to preserve and promote national interests while safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, independence, and autonomy has been incorporated into the policies and programmes,” said Prime Minister Oli.

He also voiced concern over the misuse of social media to spread anarchy under the guise of political activism, stressing the importance of being alert to threats against the system.

The Prime Minister warned against elements seeking to undermine democracy by advocating for outdated systems and causing harm to public and private property. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to incorporating suggestions made during the discussion into the upcoming budget.

Prime Minister Oli further clarified that the constitution would be amended based on broad consensus, education would be made more accessible and life-relevant, the current education system would be modernized and made scientific, and efforts would be made to build strong, balanced relations with neighboring countries and the wider international community.

The NA also passed a condolence motion on the passing of former minister Pradeep Nepal. The motion, tabled by Chairperson Dahal, was unanimously endorsed by the Assembly.

The next meeting of the National Assembly is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on May 13.
