Health Minister forms taskforce to improve services at Bir Hospital

KATHMANDU, MAY 14: Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Paudel, has formed a taskforce to improve the quality of services at Bir Hospital.
The taskforce, led by senior physician Dr. Madan Upadhyay, has been mandated to provide recommendations focused on enhancing hospital services through the effective utilization of available human resources and physical infrastructure.
Additionally, the taskforce has been asked to assess the current condition of key services such as pharmacy, radiology, pathology, and orthopedics—along with their respective equipment—and suggest ways to improve them.
The three-member taskforce also includes experts Deepak Mohan Bhattarai and Dr. Suresh Tiwari as members.
The team has further been assigned to analyze the hospital’s financial and administrative challenges and propose viable solutions. It has also been tasked with identifying hurdles in the hospital’s digitalization process and recommending a future roadmap.
Minister Paudel has facilitated an agreement to entrust the National Innovation Center, led by Mahabir Pun, with the repair of out-of-service equipment at the hospital. As a result, many devices have been restored at minimal cost and are now operational.
Since Minister Paudel assumed office, Bir Hospital has expanded its services—introducing a two-shift OPD system and creating an environment that accommodates a larger number of patients.
CT scan and MRI services are now operating at higher capacity. Following a nine-point reform plan introduced by the minister, an online ticketing system has been implemented. To further strengthen this, the minister is actively working to drive the hospital’s digital transformation.
Hospital Director Dr. Dilip Sharma stated that efforts will be made to implement the recommendations provided by the taskforce.
