China Tourism Day observed in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU, MAY 21: China Tourism Day was marked in Kathmandu with a special event organized yesterday evening. The event was jointly hosted by the China Cultural Center, the China National Tourist Office, and China Southern Airlines. It brought together members of the Nepali business community, travel industry professionals, the Chinese business community, government officials, and other stakeholders.
China observes May 19 as its Tourism Day in honor of the renowned Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake.
Speaking on the occasion, Xiao Jiang, Director of the China Cultural Center in Kathmandu, highlighted that tourism has become an essential part of modern leisure and lifestyle, helping people reconnect with nature. She emphasized that tourism fosters dialogue and mutual understanding among nations, strengthens friendships, and contributes to building a global community with a shared future for humanity.
Yang Wenfu, General Manager of the Kathmandu Office of China Southern Airlines, noted the airline’s efforts to expand the China-Nepal route network. He expressed confidence in further collaboration with Nepali stakeholders to open a new chapter in China-Nepal tourism and reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to enhancing the aviation and tourism industries between the two countries.
On the same occasion, Mohan Suwal, representative of the China Tourism Office in Kathmandu, delivered an insightful presentation on Chinese tourism. He showcased China’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and modern achievements, highlighting the country's rich traditions and festivals such as the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year), the Lantern Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Discussing China’s historical significance, Suwal noted that the country is home to numerous historical sites and relics that reflect the wisdom and legacy of its people. He highlighted notable landmarks including the ancient city of Xi’an, the Terracotta Army, and the Forbidden City in Beijing. China currently boasts 59 UNESCO World Heritage Sites—ranking second globally.
China remains one of the world’s leading outbound tourism markets, while also welcoming a significant number of Nepali travelers each year.
